The competition tasks of this skill category are based on the Vocational qualification in logistics.

The qualification titles of the basic qualification are autonkuljettaja (driver), linja-autonkuljettaja (bus driver), yhdistelmäajoneuvonkuljettaja (articulated vehicle driver), lentoasemahuoltaja (airport attendant) and varastonhoitaja (warehouse operative).

The professional who have completed the qualification may work according to the competence area for example in transporting people or goods in a transport company, industry, at airport, in warehouses of different companies or in the public sector.

Description of the skill category

A driver and an articulated vehicle driver transport different goods in traffic with van, lorry and vehicle combination. They use different loading equipment in their work, such as a forklift, crane and wheel loader. The work tasks include load handling, customer service and terminal tasks. Moreover, the tasks include management of telematics for logistics (GPS tracking devices, different navigation systems, smart cards, devices for wireless communication).

A bus driver transports passengers in local traffic, express coaches, liner and charter traffic. The bus driver’s job is a service profession.

The competition is individual.

Skill requirements

A driver’s work is independent and responsible. S/he is responsible for freight, an expensive vehicle and traffic safety. A professional in transport sector is able to:

  • operate in customer service and transportation tasks
  • transport customers’ products profitably and safely as well as serve customers
  • load a vehicle to maximum load in accordance with regulation and circumstances and drive a vehicle in a safe, economic and responsible way
  • communicate with communication tools of vehicles and transport sector
  • operate in national and international environments
  • work in cooperation with others in monocultural and multicultural working environments
  • diagnose the roadworthiness of his/her vehicle
  • ensure technical and safe functioning of the vehicle and its additional devices
  • manage the insurances related to transportations and regulation associated to his/her work
  • operate as an entrepreneur or in an entrepreneurial-minded way
  • appreciate his/her own profession
  • continuously develop his/herself, his/her job and work ability.

A driver must have a driving licence in accordance with Driving licence act and the basic level professional competence qualification for professional drivers. The professional competence qualification for professional drivers is required for working in the profession.
